Virtues of Career Planning
Your school counselor is a key person to assist you in planning your personal education and career goals. Through self-appraisal and self-improvement activities you will learn decision-making and planning skills. It is critical to begin planning now for your future.
Through an ongoing partnership involving you, your parents, and your school counselor, you will be guided through creating a Student Education Occupation Plan (SEOP). An SEOP reflects your accomplishments and strengths, and offers you the tools you will need to plan and manage your education and career. Think of the SEOP as your educational road map giving you direction as you progress through high school and on to college and/or career.
So, why is it important to plan your career now and not just take random classes? Here are the top five reasons:
1. To save time and money.
2. To take advantage of the opportunities to earn college credit while in high school.
3. To make connections between work in school, post-secondary training, and the world of work.
4. To participate in hands-on learning through various CTE programs.
5. To acquire technical training within your area of interest.
